possible yes why / @ki a et wonderful to have you here I am quickly looking at a few names so that I understand or I am also acknowledging that I am able to read your messages the purpose of the chat window is for you to keep posing doubts and questions or queries especially on today’s topic which is the writing skills moving on into the agenda of the day if you look at the writing skills are the part of the recruitment process it has become an important part in the last couple of years there has been a change in the mindset of the recruiters that has the companies there earlier they were focusing more on the group discussions etc but today the reason why we feel that the writing skills are becoming more important and therefore are being checked a little odd is the oral communication skills and the value would be responding to others is any more being checked in personal interview further in your initial years of your job I’m not expecting you as an employee to your discuss in a large framework or in a large group you might not be required to make presentations again a large group but what is important is Dana and day out you would be communicating especially in a written format with various people and various stakeholders for example you might be speaking to your colleague you might be rather communicating to your colleague or to your boss or to your spa delayed or to an external kind of yours and this is where the writing skills become important further the writing skills are also being used to judge a few more skills which are mostly we are analytical and logical reasoning skills while we are in the task or in this session today we will understand how the rest of the skills are being checked using this writing task what exactly are we going to do today quickly that agenda today is put in as a part of the slide now let me start the slide this is what we are going to do today we are going to answer a few questions the questions that we are going to answer are what are the companies that are usually have writing tasks as a part of that recruitment process the specific skills test and what exactly is the company looking for in just using this right in task and then we will go on to look at a few common elements that are true for every kind of writing tasks what do I mean by that a few conventions and few customs are going to be there [Applause] which are common for anything that you put on paper for example how do you write a sentence that’s going to be the same irrespective of the kind of the task then we will go into the nitty gritties of the various kinds of the vital tasks and then we will move to the details of the each of these writing tasks I have collated a couple of writing tasks like for example a video synthesis etc we will understand what does the approach how should you be looking at so how you looked at the agenda of the session as I said at the beginning of the session keep looking keep using the chat window and include a few more aspects that you want me to cover in this particular session I’m also not going into detail of how to generate the points on what exactly you should be looking at in an essay writing task because these have been discussed at length in the Learning Center videos that are there in conquer online what I am looking at is more what are how should you approach each of the stars in the mixer so let us get into understanding what are the companies which usually check the write or have the writing task as a part of its recruitment process just having a small technical glitch to move the slide into the next one yeah the first one has to be pro the pro half and a simple essay-writing topic that is your very common I said I think there you are given a topic or sometimes you are given two or three topics and you are given a choice to write one on one of them but in most of the cases it is no choice there is only one topic which is given and you are expected to write an essay on the topic these years especially Theseus ninja has an email writing task we are expecting it to continue this year too or it might slightly be a twitch or slight change from the regular email in Theseus digital they had introduced a picture interpretation kind of a task captioning the has again an essay writing IBM has something called as summarizing a passage it is very similar to a reading comprehension passage but instead of questions as to the passage you are expected to type in as summary in most of the cases do understand when we talk about the writing of the task do understand this is not actually writing but it is actually typing so one of the elements that you should be concentrating in the next few weeks is to improve your typing skills now that doesn’t mean that you should be immediately you’re not starting get into a piping Institute start with let us say a SDF lkg kind of a thing that is not what is required but with a five to ten minutes in a deal take up a newspaper or any text including maybe one of your textbooks that you want and revise and start typing on the screen without looking at the screen looking at only the material either the newspaper or the textbook what that will help is to improve the speed in terms of your finger movements your mind will or your eyes will get used to the keyboard and this is more important for people who’s typing skills or the speeds are not very good but again it doesn’t matter that you cannot suffice so fast what is important is in the fifteen or twenty minutes that is given to you in most of this writing tasks you should be able to try to without any typing mistakes and you should be able to type whatever you are thinking to get in into onto the screen so going back to the companies if you are looking at IBM as I said IBM usually provides a passage and you are asked to summarize mu sigma has something called as a video synthesis and tech mahindra has something called as a picture interpretation so quickly to summarize the bruja and si cap Germany also has an essay Theseus ninja email and TCS Digital has a picture interpretation iBM has a summary of a passage and nu Sigma has a video synthesis what exactly is this we will look into it in today’s session and technique Mahindra has an essay on a picture there’s a slightly different from the picture interpretation we will talk about those differences once we go into the session today moving forward now what exactly are the skills that are Thursday using this writing task quickly to summarize the slide there are three or four important words there how well did you understand the task the topic is there a clarity in your thought and is there a structure to your thought they were the three or four elements that the companies look for and why are these important we are looking at the importance of the skills more from the kind of the job that you are going to do once you get into this companies the first thing is understanding the instruction most of the times we blanket everything in the writing task as an AC but that is not right there might be an email there might be a picture interpretation there might be a picture analysis there can be an essay on a topic there can be a summary so far these different have you really understood that so the first important thing that these companies look for is have not understood the instruction so what is the first task for us to do whenever there is a writing task read through the instruction I clearly understand what exactly is the company asking you to do using that first and then understand the topic for example if I give you a topic like education should be provided free by the government what do I mean by the topic government should provide free education to all if such a topic has been given to you most of us tend to immediately grab the important words which are there like for example government and maybe education and start writing an essay on education but the topic is not right on education the topic is very clear there is a statement which is there so when we say you should understand the topic very clearly we should not just to look at the important words and forget the totality of the topic the third element I said is a clarity of thought what do I mean by that whether it might be an eye see whether it might be an email finally when someone reads you’re in diverse voice whatever you have written well people start from the beginning and reach the end they should be very clear in their minds what you want to see going again by the example government should provide free education to all if you are saying in first paragraph of the second paragraph that yes and then you come out with the loose and then finally you say yes sometimes yes sometimes no no I am confused by the time I reach the end so there should be some view that you are coming out with and your view is important your clarity of thought is important more than what is the view in all these stuffs except maybe in the email task there is no I talk wrong opinions so therefore it is not important what is your opinion it is more important how clearly have you put across that opinion so the clarity of thought is what is important and the fourth element is what we are calling it as a structure in your thought process that structure should appear in your essay or the response to what do I mean by that if suppose then there are three or four points that you want to write are these three or four points separated into different paragraphs are there connections between the badness are there connections between the sentences so while we are speaking like for example in the last ten minutes and I have started speaking you have seen the way I am linking the sentences how am i leading the sequences I am linking the sentences using for example hence therefore looking back so I am using words which are connecting one sentence to the other I am saying statements as separate sentences then you will be bored or you would not be understanding what I want to see but what I am actually doing look at the words but what I am actually doing dealing this group of birds I used to link to the previous thought so while you are writing this linking of thoughts is what is important so when you write the sentences when you write the paragraphs there should be a connection between the sentences and the badness so to summarize this one part what we have talked about that is what are all the skills that are common on testing you the company basically checks did you understand the past did you understand the topic was there a clarity Neum thought and is there a structure to your thought so to come up and answer those questions then the company is reading your response it checks whether these elements are there or not so if a structure is there then there is a logic to your thought if there is a logical flow and there is then there is a clarity in your thought if there is a single structure again there is a flow just there however what are the ones which are not very important the minute we talk about the writing skill the focus immediately goes on to how well can I use my English language but this writing task is not so much about the language abilities it is more about your geological abilities what do I mean by that you don’t need to prove that you can write very complex sentences because tomorrow your job is not to write legal agreements your job is not to build in writing articles and journals or editorials what you are expected to do is to communicate with maybe internal company stakeholders or your external kind clients and customers in all these scenarios in your day to day job you are going to eat say simple language requirements so there is no need to get worried or get tensed up that you do not know how to write complex language the company is not looking for complex language the company is looking for simple sentences the sentences might still have a couple of grammar mistakes even then it is booking the confusion should not be there and how do we end up bringing the by writing very long sentences if I am speaking to you right now if I started a sentence and ended after 50 or 100 words you would be losing your understanding because you don’t know what I have spoken in the last one so when I am speaking I am speaking in short sentences my sentences are not more than 10 to 15 words the same is the meaning you should write your sentences should not be more than 10 to 15 words long similarly the second element that we unnecessarily over focus is the kinds of words that we are using we don’t need to use high-level vocabulary we don’t mean to use flowery language we need to use simple language okay to reiterate and repeat the focus is on your ideas how well you are able to communicate those ideas rather than how confusing or complex your languages you can use simple sentences and simple words to even talk about or communicate complex ideas so the focus should be on the ideas the focus should be on the structure the focus should be on the logical flow and let’s focus on the grammar part of it or the words part of it yes having said that you should not make a mistake continuous mistakes are repeating mistakes like the difference between there or there for example whenever you are using if you are making a mistake between these two words then there is a problem similarly if you make a mistake between right and right then there is a problem so simple words not misused is the key when we talk about double cabin water when we talk about the sentence structure the flow and the simple sentences is what we are looking at so in case you have any other doubts of what should you do what you should not do especially on these elements just keep writing on the Jacke so that I can address those let us move forward on to the next element today of our session which is the varieties of tasks we already have seen in a nutshell when we are talking about the various companies but if I have to group them they are three different aspects or the varieties of thoughts one is the email in the olden days we used to talk about later writing today email has taken over the letter writing because most of the communication is now in the form of them email it is it is one and somebody is the other what is the difference or the basic difference among these three elements when you look at an email the email is more for official purposes there you need to know what are the most important elements when writing an email to a client especially or a customer even when you are writing to a boss what are the most important elements in an email those elements are not the same then compared to an essay in the email there is usually a purpose some tasks that you want to communicate to the other person in it is say you are putting forth your views you are putting in your opinions now the middle you come to the summary you are not giving your own views but summarizing someone else feels so the basic difference between a summary and if somebody is not your views in Si it is your own opinions and views that come into picture and in the email there is usually a purpose for which you are writing that main and that is what you should be capturing in your and that even the summary can be done as a passage or other medium and if they can be asked either by giving you a topic or by giving you a switch I am even usually there are a few purposes that are mentioned in your instruction and you are asked to write an email around that purpose let us start with the summary of the passage as I say if a summary of the passage is asked what are the things that you should be looking at you should be first of all understanding what is the most important part of the passage now if it has multiple paragraphs that’s actually good news because the minute there are more paragraphs that means each paragraph will have one or two most important items and you are expected to read through the passage and then go and put it in a summary or a sentence format while you are looking at it so how do you go about summarizing the passage do go back and refer to the videos on the active reading process available under the reading comprehension part in the verbal ability in the learning center there we have discussed in detail how to read a sentence how to read a sentence fast how should you use the punctuation marks and the stand a little more what are the most important parts in a sentence that you should concentrate on etc I am giving you a passage on the screen take a minute and read through the passage and can you actually summarize this passage on your own in the next 3 or 4 minutes when you are summarizing today for the next one or two minutes you don’t need to write complete sentences but let us understand how should you go about reading the passage and summarizing it here is the passage for you I hope the words are readable because it’s a short screen I have tried to put in the in that passage onto the screen this is an opinion piece published in the Indian Express newspaper you are asked in the exam to summarize let us say the passage like this how should you go about it what are the things that you should note and what are the things that you should not what are the most important parts of the passage is it the beginning is it that 8 how will you go about it the way to look at reading the passage and summarizing it Lea’s read through each sentence and quickly on your rough note write down what are the most important words or the summary of those sentences and then once you have those bullet points on your paper then going to the title screen and build sentences on your own rather picking out the sentences right from the message use your own words to make those bullet points into sentences and try to use as simple words as possible so that your understanding doesn’t or change the summary or what exactly is being mentioned for example how do I read each paragraph let us go back to the slide now I have put in one paragraph each on the slide so that it would be easier for you to approach what are the things that you should focus on you should be after reading every sentence you should be asking what is the signals about how do you answer this question if you are aching further ask two more questions you would be able to answer this thing better who are what is the hero in the sentence and what about the hero is being mentioned in the sentence so what are the words that you should be concentrating on what words are more important the opinion words are the important ones the describing words are important what do I mean by that look at the sentence here European regulators have slammed a five billion dollar fine on Google for restrictive practices and then there is a – that implies the entire part of the the – which is still here is talking about what are the restrictive practices what are not important in my summary are the examples and the in operation so what is the summary of this one sentence that European regulators have imposed as fine now the reason here if it is becoming clear it is a huge fine so in my summary or in my machine what is it that I will be writing I will be talking about first Europe because it is not the entire world it is one part of the world has put in a huge fine on Google for what for what it calls as restrictive practices what do I mean by those restrictive practices that is caught contracting with hardware manufacturers to put it search Internet services in the face of users and thus reducing the chances that they would exercise choice and give competitors a chance so what are these restrictive practices these are where the Google is not annoying choice to customers not annoying competition so these are the thoughts in my mind when I read this sentence now again the rest of the sentence while Google will appeal its chances are small now in this path which are the opinions the by Google will appeal is not an opinion its chances are small is an opinion of the author so even in an appeal the author is saying that Google will lose so that is my next part what is the next reason by the author has said that it would get loose since the case is very similar to the antitrust rules against Microsoft in the US and in the you if you you where it was penalized for all this so there was earlier where Microsoft was penalized for the same reason or a similar reason and if hence Google will also lose in because it would it has the same issue so whatever summary of this paragraph the two important sentences the first one which is talking about a huge fight and that even if it appeals it will lose so these are the only two parts or the idea that you should be putting in your thing let us look at the next paragraph google is one of the five American tech companies along the Facebook etc I’m not jumping I’m not reading this I am only skimming I am not reading in my mind my eyes are only doing the work because I know that the multiple commas are telling me that these are all others a combined market capitalization of four trillion they account for 55% of Nasdaq etc what is this impacting what is the summary is in this it is Google as one of the five American tech companies which have actually a huge market capitalization huge percent of the equity stock etc there is the author’s opinion this is only information that the author has given various the opinion of the author information technology has attracted far less regulation this is the opinion part sorry I’m trying to change the color of the pen this is the opinion but together the fire companies have unprecedented control this is opinion by so this part which he is facts is not in fact very important what is important in the sentence against as I in this paragraph is as I said the opinion part and then we bridge extraordinary volumes of user data understand the words which are important these are extreme words describing words they are the important words numbers names are not so important there is also one more word unfortunately that means the author is coming out with in a negative tone so all your own words emotion words are the ones that you should be summarizing so the author is saying that they have sought to extend monopolies with restrictive practices how all these again have been examples so these are not so important the spark is not important only the blue part it is important so what is the summary of this paragraph that author is saying that they have immense control on the world computers and data and therefore I also that they are having a lot of restrictive practices these are the only two sentences or two ideas that are important in Dutch and what about the last factor the EU file is huge in volume but it hasn’t heard the stock price however president do not refer us to retail and he is threatening retaliatory action all this is information where is the author’s opinion coming in that could have being a commensurate response if the overwhelming majority of Americans drove BMW or Mercedes but it is simply a little jerk reaction there is the important part the action against Google is not a part of that war so EU is telling that this final Google is nothing to do with the train war that is currently happening and then he says and they would not have had to be so touchy if the US regulated Silicon Valley better so what is the meaning of these two these are again the opinion part the rest of the paragraph entirely is information so if you look at the three paragraphs the first paragraph talks about Google being fined and then it gives the reason the second one it says and then it also says or the author also gives an opinion where if appeals there it will lose the second one he says Google and other companies file companies in the world has a huge power or control on the data and the third thing you see is this fine is not a part of the trade wall and EU would not have done end if US had better regulations so these are the three important but now this is where most of the times the passages that are given to you are more at least are from the recent articles recent stories etc so keep reading the newspapers because this is an article that I have picked up from a few days back or a couple of days back rather keep looking at especially your technical technology IT firms or because those are the companies that you are looking at for the chops right now this is how you approach a factor of summary what are the key important points nowhere have you said whether the imposing of the fine is good or bad or icky no your opinions at all it is taking each sentence each paragraph at a time and bringing up the most important thoughts or the ideas of the passage what are important are the convenience and the describing words what are not important are the facts or the statistics or the information examples these are not important so if you can for example assume that you read and you assume that there is a person who is sitting opposite to you you are explaining what exactly is the passage about that is what you should be doing think of as if you are telling maybe your younger brother or younger sister what is this passage means the minute you are able to do that that is what is the summary of the passage I hope you have been able to understand this in case you do have doubts keep listening on them on the chat window and then we can cut I will try to address all those thoughts having looked at a summary of the passage now let us look at the same thing as a summary of the video again the same thing is important what are important are the opinions what are important are the describing words and what are not important are that examples are what are not important of the names etcetera now I have picked up today a video from the Harvard Business Review a very short two minute video how is the video different from the passage the passage is all there and you can go back immediately the video yes you can go back and listen to it multiple times while you are listening start putting it on the paper this is where in fact it is very similar to the passage why you reading the passage look at each sentence and put a link or take thoughts while listening to the video keep looking at the important parts and put them on the paper let us look at a video and see how you are able to go and it was that I’m going to play the video first go ahead and listen to the video and then try to summarize that maybe if you can kill me quickly keep writing on the chat window what is the summary of these videos while you are listening can you keep writing the important words that you are able to listen to let us start with it we will play one or two types so that you are not missing any important things let us start the video keep your fingers ready and your ears open keep typing the important words which are you are finding and let us see how many of you have been able to identify the important words it’s time to bust the persistent myth that there are only two ways to behave in a negotiation either be antagonistic and downright unfriendly to get what you want or play nice to avoid hurt feelings the truth is treating a negotiation like a relationship rather than an impersonal transaction can improve the final outcome for everyone writer Carolyn O’Hara compiled the following advice from two negotiation experts Harvard professor Michael wheeler and Jeff Weiss of Vantage Partners first while it may seem like diving straight into the nuts and bolts of the negotiation immediately is the best approach skilled negotiators begin with smart small talk a few minutes of neutral conversation getting to know the other side discussing process etc can offer useful insights into their interests and concerns Plus create connections that establish rapport and build trust second it’s natural to want to avoid confrontation especially if the stakes are high but remember if you are a pushover you not only fail to protect your present interests but can be taken advantage of down the road being firm doesn’t mean being combative and can be done in a professional and respectful way third be curious and empathetic ask not just what but also why questions to truly understand what is driving their demands the answers can help you see the issue from another perspective and create opportunities for collaboration lastly approach the negotiation as a collaborative act of joint problem-solve get creative together and use we rather than I to shift the approach from confrontational to constructive instead of simply conceding try to craft an outcome that satisfies both of your interests reframes sticking points as hurdles to overcome together if you can rise above the false dichotomy of either being nice or getting what you want you will build relationships and succeed in your negotiations both now and in the future yes have you been able to now view the video have you been able to summarize what are the words that you should have muted let us look at how I would have written my notes on the sweetie it’s time to bust the persistent myth that there are only two ways to behave in a negotiation either be antagonistic and downright unfriendly to get what you want or play nice to avoid hurt feelings the truth is treating a negotiation like a relationship rather than an impersonal transaction can improve the final outcome for everyone writer Carolyn O’Hara compiled the following advice from two negotiation experts Harvard professor Michael wheeler and Jeff Weiss of Vantage partners first while it may seem like diving straight into the nuts and bolts of the negotiation immediately is the best approach skilled nigga if you have observed here the focus was not on the who are the writers of this who are the people who have done this research etc this video yes the title itself has mentioned but in most of your best cases the title is not given it is about negotiation and the first part of the video says there is a belief which the person is saying that the video is saying that it is wrong belief that there are only two ways either be unfriendly or be very nice and in fact it says if your treating ago she ation as a relationship it is good now what else is being talking about look at how the author as or the speaker has started by saying one that means we know that there are one or more than one items which the video is focusing on oshi aiders begin with smart small talk a few minutes of neutral conversation getting to know the other side discussing process etc can offer useful insights into there interests and concerns plus create connections that establish rapport and build trust second it’s natural to want to avoid confrontation especially if the stakes are high but remember if you are a pushover you not only fail to protect your present interests but can be taken advantage of down the road being firm doesn’t mean being so if you look at the first appointment the offer has of the speaker has mentioned that it is not jumping immediately into the conversation or into the issue that they are negotiating on but it is more what she says as small talk easy what it and then she says you should be firm without being aggressive so this is the second point combative and can be done in a professional and respectful way third be curious and empathetic ask not just what but also why questions to truly understand what is driving their demands the answers can help you see the issue from another perspective and create opportunities for collaboration lastly approach the negotiation as a collaborative act of joint problem solving get creative together and use we rather than I to shift the approach from confrontational to constructive instead of simply conceding try to craft an outcome that satisfies both of your interests reframe sticking points as hurdles to overcome together if you can rise above the false dichotomy for points which the speaker herself has mentioned and these four points are the ones which you should be writing engineer summary so how would you then summarize the video what should be there as I told you the minute daily is an a writing task the common element to the writing task is that there should be a structure to the writing task what do I mean by that there should be introduction there should be the body and there should be a conclusion now this is true for it every single vital task whether it is an essay whether it is a summary whether it is an email what goes into that introduction changes what goes into the conclusion changes what goes into the body changes but the three elements are not there are going to be common across all the constructs now for a summary of either the passage or the video how do you structure you got your bullet points you got your ideas onto the paper how do you then put them into a passage the way you would be starting with the given video talks about and put in the most important part that is about how negotiation should be approached that is your introduction to the video summary if you look at the passage summary the given passage talks about the final which has been paused in first on Google by the European Union that is the most important trick so then the rest of the paragraph or if you look at the next part of your essay is for the writing tasking is going to be the endtime work so as an introduction especially to the summary of either a video or a passage it is going to be only one more match it max two lines it’s not going to be a huge factor so the first paragraph will have one or two lines talking about what the video is about in a nutshell or what the passage is about in a nutshell and then you can add coming back to the video as an example you can say in the video the speaker has mentioned four ways of approaching the negotiation that is your second sentence in the introduction so you’re not in operating what are all the four ways in the same paragraph but in the first paragraph you are they won yes the author has talked about on the speaker has talked about the video is about the negotiation how to conduct a negotiation a successful negotiation and the speaker has mentioned four elements or four approaches that need to be done – for a negotiation to be successful then the rest of the body would have the first point she has mentioned why did I use she because I am very clear that the author is or the speaker is a lady if you are not clear you she if you are clear that there is a use the correct gender appropriate gender then now proceeding forward yes the negotiation strategy the speaker has said that the first thing that should be done is do not jump immediately into the issues but do some small talk and then the second point is the third point is the fourth voltage and what should be the conclusion that the speaker has mentioned if all these above four are done there would be a successful negotiation going to the Google one what would be the conclusion if the author has mentioned that if the US had more stringent laws on the technology companies then European Union need not have had immersed such a big fight the author himself has concluded or herself has included in that passage this is how the summary of would be the summary of a passage or a video would not be more than five to six sentences because for each paragraph you are looking at one or two sentences and in the passage you are usually given four to five paragraphs kind of a thing so not beyond ten sentences is your summary that is how you should be approaching the but let us now move on to the next writing task which is the image I’m not going in detail in the email as I said because the we have talked about it in detail in the learning center and on you know online but so go ahead and refer to that but what are the things that you should not miss out in an email you should not miss out the subject because you are going to write an email in reality also the minute you are talking on the v-mail the first thing that you should go and type in is the subject without the subject the opposite person wouldn’t know what this email is about therefore there should be a subject which would be in fact the summary of your email there would be an elaborate purpose usually the purpose becomes the summary and becomes a subject but understand the purpose I don’t know what to miss the purpose which has been mentioned there should be a structure again that means an introduction of body or the main take and a conclusion in email the conclusion is usually the leave-taking and therefore you should be ensuring that it is mentioned so for example if the task like this is given to you assuming that you are Ruffy now why is this important because finally in the email when you say regards you should normally put in your name but you should be putting in write an email to your client so now you will know what is the relationship between Ravi and client and then there is a name so don’t is you I mean use the same name inviting him to a party so what is the main purpose or the subject of the email would be it will be invitation to a party would be your subject now what would be the interaction there should be at addressing the person so there should be dear mr. John Doe and then you should be putting in what is the introduction which we say then is the main body what is the interaction that you would be writing in this look at the phrases that are usually given to get a little bit about this the introduction will be the background of this dear John Doe we have recently overcome various constraints and put in a lot of hard work and successfully completed a project a new act development project we are now celebrating this successful completion and it would be and it would be a pleasure to have you in this celebratory party so your introduction is there body is there what would be the conclusion looking forward to meeting you there looking forward to interacting with you there thanks and regards so the length of the email is not important what is important is for all the elements there are all these words which are there so there is a launch of a new active element and this person is going to be invited so your subject in fact can be a little more precise invitation to a large party in addition to and at launch party so make it as concise and short but at the same time as much information as possible so your subject is important you’re addressing the person is important your introduction and conclusion are important then the leave-taking is important and the signature is important so these are the most important elements in any email that you should not forget let us now move into the next task which is essay on a picture again if Jonathan saw me off I hope if you are out there then look at this picture and come out with what are all the ideas of the thoughts that are coming into your mind and keep typing there to look at what can you understand from this yes there is a kid who is there a kid Olli is there in dirty water there is a lot of garbage around so what are all the things that can you can talk about you can talk about poverty you can talk about garbage you can talk about polluting the rivers or the oceans you can talk about the plastic issue you can talk about kids not having place to play so these are the various things that you can look at now if someone has asked there are two varieties of questions that can be asked one is something which TC is digital was trying to do that is you are given a picture and you are asked to put in as many thoughts that you can think of like what I have just done this is one variety of a task the other one is to write an essay as a second task the first one it is to keep thinking what else can you see in the image you can talk about maybe electronic waste now from the SA point of view how do you approach it usually for interpreting and giving as many different things the time given would be shot it would have been maybe five nine minutes or xmax ten minutes not me on that but for SI you usually have given a little more time and what are the kind of things that you should be looking at write down whatever you are first clicking the same process and then pick up one thing wave you can write an essay on you don’t need to write essay on all the points you would be picking up one and say this is what is the most important thing that I feel this image is representing and you can go ahead and write an essay on that so how do you go across writing an essay the approach again I am not focusing so much on the details but I am going to brush up very quickly a few elements that you should be looking at the minute you read the topic don’t start with the conclusion first look at what are all the points or examples what all can you think of it can be positive it can be negative it can be various other things you can talk about but it can be examples it can be facts it can be opinions of your own opinions or reasons keep writing them in your graph sheet don’t focus on the conclusion so the approach further and essay it is where you first concentrate on generic in the points look at the topic and ask how people various people are affected example this is what we call as the stakeholder approach for example one of the latest topics today is fake news if I if a topic is given like this how are you approach this don’t immediately say I like I don’t like I agree I don’t agree don’t look at it like that the minute you have looked at fake news who are all affected by the fake news and who are all influencing the fitness keep writing all the things that can come onto the paper it can be the role of the media it can be the role of the politicians it can be the role of the innocent people it cannot be the role of the police so various things can come into picture you can also think of the various examples that are there think widely and few more not just like Indian examples this was where again you are writing or your reading skills come into picture so keep writing who are influencing it or who are all influenced by it similarly look at one more method which we call as the select method what do I mean by that how is this affecting the social factors how is the economic factors how are the economic factors affected by this how are the legal factors affected how are the environmental factors or the ecological factors affected how are the cultural act affected and how are the technology how is it affecting this is one approach this is one approach you can look at these approaches and start asking questions to your mind and the minute you ask the questions to your mind your mind will start giving answers so if you look at the topic the approach should be don’t start with the conclusion start asking questions to your mind what all can you think of it can be as I said a fact it can be an example it can be your own reason it can be how will your mind come out with it ask its questions who are influenced who are you in seeing it who are the affected parties how is the society being addicted how is the law and order being affected how is the economy being affected can you think of it both positives negatives etc once you have at least four or five then looking the using those four or five points what are the conclusions that you can come out with what can be the view and then put that you in your introduction so your work is the most important thing while you are writing anything the final essay you would be able to build in a logical manner once if you are able to bring a rough structure which is positive this is how you approach the writing task so to summarize if you are looking at what we have done today we have tried to answer these questions we looked at what are other companies that have writing tasks as a path of their recruitment process what are all the specific skills tested what are the common elements of the writing tasks what are the various varieties of writing tasks we talked about the video summary the passage summary we talked about the picture interpretation and the pictures writing anything and the email then we looked at how they approach each of these tasks and soil a couple of questions don’t understand that the common elements of the writing tasks again I am repeating so that we don’t forget the first one yes there should be a structure there should be complete sentences and not bullet points there should be simple sentences and there should be simple words no need of using high-level words what do I mean by structure there should be a logical connection and a logical flow and there should be a clarity of thought so whatever you want to say should be clearly mentioned rather than confusing the reader so this is how what I’m here to share now in case you still have a few more doubts I am going to be here in the session for the next five to ten minutes you can still go ahead and ask me the questions I hope you have enjoyed the session today to calculate before I stop the session I would like to say a couple of words having a job on your resuming that the final you drawing on what is going to be extremely important because it is going to be a tremendous confidence booster the first job is always going to be slightly or the first interviews it’s going to be slightly nerve-racking attention filter but don’t forget that every single person who is there and all with you is also under the similar tension and similar pressure what you need to do is to ensure that you are planning your reflection in a focused manner look at your strengths look at your weaknesses check out if the company is actually concentrating on those weaknesses and in the next few weeks strengthen those areas of weakness use the recommendation engine select the company of your goal and start looking at the recommendations so that you are focused in your preparation go through the various full-length tests to get the test feeling so that on the day of the exam you are more prepared and preparation is always the key to reducing attention all the best see you in the next session of Cordillera online thank you very much
